Description
Sweet Basil
Sweet Basil is one of the world’s most popular culinary herbs, prized for its rich aroma and sweet, slightly spicy flavour. Native to tropical regions of Africa and Asia, basil is a fast-growing annual that produces abundant, fragrant leaves throughout summer.
Basil seeds, often known as Sabja or Tukmaria seeds, are small black seeds that develop a unique gel-like coating when soaked while retaining a delicate crunch. They are widely enjoyed in beverages, desserts, and healthy recipes, while basil microgreens add exceptional flavour and nutrition to fresh dishes. Sabja seeds suitable for soaking are available in our Microgreen & Sprouting range.

Cultivation & Harvesting
Sweet Basil thrives in warm weather and performs best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. Keep plants consistently watered, allowing the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings. Basil grows exceptionally well in garden beds, raised beds, and containers.
Regular harvesting encourages bushy growth and continuous leaf production. Pinch out the growing tips and remove flower buds as they appear to maintain the best leaf flavour and prolong the harvest season.
In frost-free regions, basil may self-seed readily, while in colder areas it is generally grown as a summer annual.
Sweet Basil is a rewarding herb for gardeners and food lovers alike, offering delicious flavour, attractive foliage, and exceptional nutritional value from both its leaves and seeds.
