Marigold Bonita (Tagetes erecta)
Marigold Bonita is a vibrant edible flower with large blooms in rich shades of yellow, orange and gold. The petals have a mild citrus-like flavour and add bright colour to salads, rice dishes and baked treats.
Cultivation & Care
These easy-to-grow annuals thrive throughout South Africa and flower continuously through summer. It grows to a height of 25cm to 30cm.
- Plant in full sun.
- Grow in well-drained, lightly composted soil.
- Water regularly, but avoid overwatering.
- Remove spent flowers to encourage more blooms.
- Sow seeds directly into beds or seedling trays in spring and summer.
Seeds germinate quickly and plants usually flower within 10 to 12 weeks.
