The miracle berry, scientifically known as Synsepalum dulcificum, is a fruit native to West Africa. The berry gained popularity due to its remarkable ability to temporarily alter taste perception.
Here’s how it works:
Eat one miracle berry, and let it coat your tongue and palate by moving it around in your mouth for a minute or so. The miraculin in the berry binds to the taste buds, particularly the ones responsible for detecting sour flavours. As a result, sour or acidic foods that generally taste tart or sour, such as lemons, vinegar, or certain fruits, are perceived as sweet.
This intriguing effect has led to various culinary experiments and tasting events where people try traditionally sour foods after consuming miracle berries. Keep in mind that the effect is temporary and usually lasts about 30 minutes to an hour.

Health Considerations:
While miracle berries are low in calories and offer some nutritional benefits, consuming them in moderation is essential. The primary allure lies in their ability to enhance the flavours of other foods without the need for added sugars.
PLEASE NOTE: These imported Miracle Berry plants are small in size and are slow growers, however, when they reach about 30cm they should start to fruit.
Position
These plants thrive in tropical and subtropical climates with a humid environment with temperatures between 15°C to 29. They are often grown as small shrubs or trees.
In regions with cold winters, provide protection from frost. Consider moving container-grown plants indoors during the coldest months.
Miracle berry plants prefer partial shade to filtered sunlight. They prefer partial shade or filtered sunlight. They can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning. However, prolonged exposure to intense sunlight may lead to leaf burn.
Plant in a location sheltered from strong winds, as wind can lead to excessive moisture loss and may damage the delicate leaves.
Soil
Plant miracle berries in well-draining, acidic soil. A pH range between 4.5 and 5.8 is ideal. Use a high-quality potting mix if growing in containers. Adding our Lithuanian Spaghnum Peat Moss will ensure the correct soil acidity.
Mulch with pine bark to maintain the acidity.
Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Miracle berries prefer slightly damp conditions.
Adjust the watering frequency based on the climate and the soil’s moisture retention.
Fertilising
Use a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser during the growing season (spring and summer) to support healthy growth. Our slow-release Berry/All-plant Fertiliser is ideal as the plant will absorb what it requires.
Pruning
Regular pruning can help shape the plant and encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead or diseased branches. Prune selectively to maintain an open canopy, allowing sunlight to reach inner branches.

Pests and Diseases
Keep an eye out for pests like aphids or spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with EM Control or Neem Oil.

Miracle berries start producing fruit within 2-3 years of planting. Harvest the berries when they are fully ripe, usually when they turn bright red.
