Description
The Cinderella peach tree (Prunus persica) is a variety of peach tree known for its compact size and delicious fruit. The peaches produced are usually medium-sized, with a sweet and juicy flesh. They have a red cheek with yellow flesh and are great for fresh eating, canning, or baking.
Peach trees are are self-fertile so fruit well from a single tree. Cinderella peaches are ready to harvest Mid November into December.
Cinderella peach trees are semi dwarf varieties, reaching about 3m in height. This makes them suitable for small gardens or even container growing. The tree is known for its beautiful pink blossoms that appear in spring, making it an attractive addition to gardens.
Position:
Like all peach trees, they require some hours below 7°, meaning they can tolerate a range of climates from cooler to warmer regions.
These trees require full sun for optimal fruit production, ideally getting at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Soil
They prefer well-drained, sandy loam soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.0. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
Watering
During the first year after planting, water deeply and regularly to help the roots establish. Provide about 1-2 inches of water per week, adjusting based on rainfall and soil moisture.
Once established, water deeply but infrequently, ensuring the soil is moist but not waterlogged. Monitor soil moisture and adjust watering as needed, especially during dry periods.
Fertilising
Apply our slow-release, Berry/All-plant Fertiliser. For young trees, apply 1 teaspoon every 4-5 months. The roots will absorb what they need.
Alternatively, apply a balanced fertiliser (such as 10-10-10) in early spring before new growth begins. Thereafter fertilise annually in early spring.
Peach trees need regular spraying before the onset of fruit and immediately after buds turn to small fruit. Continue organic spraying regularly for good-quality peaches.
Pruning
Prune Cinderella Peach trees in late winter to early spring before buds swell. Remove dead, damaged, or diseased branches. Thin out the canopy to improve air circulation and light penetration, which helps prevent diseases and promotes fruit development.
Train the tree to a modified central leader or open center shape for optimal fruit production.
Thinning Fruit
Thin fruit in early summer when they are about the size of a dime to promote larger, healthier fruit and prevent branch breakage due to excessive weight.
Harvesting
Cinderella peaches are ready to harvest Mid November into December.
Pest and Disease Management
For good-quality fruit, Peach trees need regular spraying before the onset of fruit and immediately after buds turn to small fruit. Regularly inspect the tree for signs of pests such as aphids, scale insects, and peach tree borers.
They can be susceptible to diseases such as peach powdery mildew, leaf curl and brown rot. Use organic products to control as needed and practice good garden hygiene by removing fallen fruit from the soil beneath the tree.
