Description

Peas Greenfeast (Pisum sativum)

Greenfeast is a productive shelling pea variety loved for its sweet, tender peas and rich flavour. The compact bush plants are easy to grow, require minimal support, and thrive in cool weather conditions.

In the Kitchen

Greenfeast peas are delicious eaten fresh, steamed, or added to soups, stews, stir-fries, pasta dishes, and salads. Their sweet flavour pairs beautifully with mint, rosemary, meat dishes, and other vegetables.

Fresh garden peas also freeze well, making them a wonderful addition to the kitchen garden.

Health Benefits

Peas are rich in vitamins A, C, and B vitamins, as well as calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, and folic acid. They are an excellent source of easily digested vegetable protein and form an important part of a healthy diet.

Cultivation

Peas are a cool-season crop and grow best in mild weather. In South Africa, sow from mid-February to May, or again in August and September, depending on your region.

Plant in full sun in well-prepared, compost-rich soil that drains well. Sow seeds directly into the garden about 3cm deep and 20cm apart. Bush varieties need little support, although light staking helps keep plants neat and productive.

Keep the soil evenly moist and weed-free for the best harvests. Mulching helps retain moisture and keeps roots cool.
